Are all carbs created equally? In regards to actual caloric energy yes. But in terms of health and nutrition definitnely not!

Energy wise your body cannot tell the difference between carbs from fruit or carbs from pizza. However, internally your body will love you a lot more if you give them good carbs. So what are some good sources of carbs?

Veggies:

Veggies are great for a variety of reasons. Besides being filled with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, they barely have any calories in them. Meaning you can eat a ton of veggies and not feel bad about it. Some of the best vegetable include

  • Brocolli
  • Cauliflower
  • Peppers
  • Green Beans
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Asparagus
  • Onions
  • and more!

A great way to cook your veggies is on the grill or in a wok. Lightly season, add a little olive oil and you are good to go.

Fruit:

Fruit not only tastes good but it is good for you. The one thing you have to be careful of though is the amount of carbs in fruit. Typically the sweeter it is the more carbs it has. Here is a list of some good fruit to add in your diets

  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Oranges
  • Bananas

Fruit can be blended in a shake, thrown in your oatmeal or just eaten plain!

Others:

Oatmeal is a personal favorite of ours. One of the best breakfast you can do is oatmeal, throw some fruit in it and have a protein shake. Be careful of some of the instant oatmeals, they are filled with nasty fillers and fake sugar. Try to just get unflavored and make your own.

When it comes to losing weight it doesn’t matter too much where you get your carbs from. But when you are trying to be as healthy as you can try to make smarter choice when picking up your fork!
